Gold-filled is not the same as gold-plated—it’s much more durable. Gold-filled jewelry is made by bonding a thick layer of solid gold to a base metal (typically jeweler’s brass) using heat and pressure. This process creates a long-lasting finish that won’t flake or peel like gold plating. The result is a resilient, tarnish-resistant surface that looks and wears like solid gold for years. It’s also nickel-free and, for most people, hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin. Over time, moving parts like clasps or jump rings may show wear before the chain itself—this is normal and can vary depending on wear and individual skin chemistry.
